Typical Networking Problems
  Typical  Network Problems

PLEASE BE AWARE: Due to the many different network configurations we can only offer limited support.  We have tested the network feature extensively on computers running Windows 98, ME, 200 and XP and have never encountered any problems.

Most network connection problems are associated with the slave computer not being updated by the server. For example, updating the users names.

Go to a slave computer (any computer that is connecting to the Server)  that is not connecting correctly.

1. Check the computer to see if it has a copy of pcFORMation installed?

A)    IT'S VERY IMPORTANT to remove all the pcFORMation hidden files. To do this just g o to the pcform folder (typically located on the C drive) and locate the !Tools folder.

Inside the !Tools folder, double-click on the DeleteLicense.exe file.

B) Next Go to Start-Settings-Control Panel then to Add/Remove Programs and choose pcFORMation and remove the program.

C)   Then, delete the pcFORMation icon from the Desktop.

D) Then follow the directions to create the path to the server, found in the Network Setup Instructions.

Q. How do I check to make sure a correct shortcut was created?

A. To do this, find the Network pcFORMation icon on your desktop.  (As shown below).

Correct!

If the icon looks like the one shown below it's wrong!

A common problem is that a incorrect shortcut was created by not following the Network Setup Instructions.

Wrong!

Q. How do I check the Properties of the icon?

A. Double check that the path to the server is correct by "right clicking" on the "Network pcFORMation" icon and choose ‘Properties’. This will show the path that the shortcut is linked to.

Confirm with your administrator or IT person that the path is correct.

Q. Why do some computers work and some don’t?

A. Again, check the Properties of the shortcut icon. Compare a working computer’s shortcut to one that isn’t working and make corrections to the path.
